Did Jesus rise from the dead? The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most studied historical event in the history of the world. Did it happen? Was it a mass hallucination? The question of resurrection has been debated for centuries. Famed Christian Apologist and Resurrection expert Dr. Gary Habermas explains “Many theologians today consider the resurrection of Jesus to be the central claim of Christianity, whether they interpret this event literally or not. Such was often true of past theologians as well. In other words, even those who do not affirm the post-mortem bodily appearances but sometimes stress instead the “spiritual presence” or “continuing influence” of Jesus often feel that the resurrection is still the basis of the Christian faith.”
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is indeed central to the Christian faith. 1 Corinthians 15:14 outlines the importance of resurrection as the foundation of the faith, “And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:14, ESV). The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the young church in Corinth, explains the consequences of a false resurrection. Paul Gardner writes, “It is not just that they have believed in something that is not true but that faith devoid of belief in the resurrection of the dead achieves nothing in the life of an individual. The gospel is a sham.”
How can we be sure the Resurrection of Jesus Christ happened? Was it a bodily resurrection or simply as some believe a spiritual presence? In the following video, Dr. Gary Habermas explains the evidence of the resurrection.
